Tooth Whitening

Before any professional whitening treatment can be done, your teeth and mouth must first be assessed to determine if there is any outstanding restorative work that needs to be done.  There may be a need to scale off any acquired plaque or tartar build up prior to the whitening treatment for optimal results.

I offer two different whitening options here at Timbermere Dental Hygiene: in-office whitening and take-home (do it yourself) whitening.

If you are looking for immediate results with less fuss, in-office whitening is your solution.

Take home whitening involves taking impressions of your upper and lower teeth and fabricating custom trays for you to wear at home for a period of 10-14 days.

I generally never recommend using whitening toothpastes or rinses daily as I have found results to be minimal at best and they typically cause chronic tooth sensitivity.  When looking at the abrasive scale of toothpastes, whitening toothpastes are generally found at the top of the list. When used over long periods of time, they could scratch and thin the enamel causing areas that in fact retain more stain.

If whiter teeth are desired, it is always best to have them whitened by a professional intermittently to prevent compromising the quality of the enamel.
